Far East Battery Empowers the BBU Industry, Accelerating Global Digital Transformation

Categories:Date:2025-07-29

As global digitalization accelerates and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) continue to advance, the demand for data centers worldwide is rapidly increasing. Traditional Internet Data Centers (IDC) are evolving into AI Data Centers (AIDC), bringing new challenges for power supply efficiency and system stability. To meet these heightened requirements, traditional Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems are being replaced by Battery Backup Units (BBU).

Unlike standalone UPS batteries, BBUs are directly integrated into server racks, which places greater demands on the battery’s safety, energy density, discharge performance, thermal management, and cycle life. As the BBU market continues to heat up, EVTank forecasts that demand for cylindrical battery cells in BBU applications will reach 220 million units in 2025, and is expected to exceed 600 million units by 2030.

To meet these growing demands, Far East Battery has launched its 21700 5000mAh all-tab cylindrical lithium-ion battery — a perfect fit for BBU applications. This high-performance cell offers dual safety features with a CID current interrupt device and VENT pressure relief design to ensure operational safety. Its all-tab structure achieves ultra-low internal resistance (measured at just 3.5mΩ), reducing energy loss during operation. The cell supports continuous high-rate discharge at 12C (60A) and maintains excellent thermal performance, with a temperature rise under 40°C during 30A discharge, meeting the power demands of high-performance systems.

Leveraging Far East’s proprietary wide-temperature-range electrolyte technology, the battery operates reliably in extreme temperatures from -40°C to 80°C, ensuring power stability under harsh conditions. It also boasts an extended cycle life of over 1,000 cycles — significantly enhancing system longevity and extending battery replacement cycles from the typical 2–3 years of UPS systems to 5–10 years in BBU applications.
