Wuhan’s First! Far East Battery Supports Commissioning of Large-Scale Liquid-Cooled Independent ESS Project
Categories:Date:2026-08-05
Recently, the 50MW/100MWh energy storage power station in Lingkong Industrial Park, Huangpi District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, supported by Far East Battery (FEB), has been successfully connected to the grid and commenced operation.
As Wuhan’s first large-scale liquid-cooled grid-side independent energy storage project, the facility is directly connected to the provincial dispatch platform and adopts FEB’s high-safety, highly integrated liquid-cooled energy storage solution. It can independently participate in electricity market trading, peak regulation, frequency regulation, and other grid auxiliary services, providing strong support for renewable energy integration and the development of a new-type power system while further enhancing grid flexibility in Wuhan.

Located in Lingkong Industrial Park, Huangpi District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, the project has a total installed capacity of 50MW/100MWh. The system utilizes 314Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells and is equipped with FEB’s PowerSTROM 5000 liquid-cooled energy storage containers. The project consists of 10 energy storage units, each with a capacity of 5MW/10MWh.
Each storage unit is equipped with two 2,500kW PCS converters and connected to a 5,250kVA dry-type transformer, stepping up the voltage to 35kV. Every five storage units form one collector circuit, with a total of two 35kV collector circuits across the entire station. The overall system combines safety, stability, and operational efficiency, fully meeting the requirements of grid-side applications with multi-scenario and high-frequency regulation demands.
Facing the complex operating conditions of centralized energy storage power stations, FEB’s PowerSTROM 5000 demonstrates outstanding technological advantages. The system features high energy density and high integration, enabling long-duration and frequent regulation in shared energy storage applications. It is equipped with a multi-level fire protection architecture and coordinated safety management system to enhance overall safety performance and operation & maintenance efficiency.
Meanwhile, the intelligent liquid-cooling thermal management system precisely controls cell operating temperature and temperature differences, improving system consistency and operational reliability. This ensures long-term safe, efficient, and stable operation while providing reliable support for regional grid flexibility.
As Wuhan’s first independent energy storage project, the commissioning of this facility marks the beginning of diversified commercial operation models. The project can provide capacity leasing services for surrounding renewable energy power stations, helping meet energy storage requirements for renewable energy integration. It can also actively participate in electricity market trading and ancillary service markets, further expanding revenue streams for energy storage projects.

By improving energy storage dispatch efficiency and enhancing grid flexibility, the project strengthens the regional power grid’s capability to accommodate large-scale renewable energy integration, supporting the development of Wuhan’s smart grid and green, low-carbon transformation.
With the continuous improvement of energy storage policies in Hubei Province, the project’s economic value is expected to be further enhanced. According to relevant policies, starting from 2026, the project will receive fixed capacity compensation based on installed capacity, with the capacity tariff set at RMB 165/kW·year.
During the operational period, the project is expected to generate approximately RMB 3.3 million annually from capacity compensation, around RMB 31.5 million annually from electricity market trading, and approximately RMB 0.5–1 million annually from ancillary services, demonstrating strong investment returns and long-term operational value.
As the construction of new-type power systems continues to accelerate, independent energy storage is evolving from a supporting facility into a core element of the future energy infrastructure. Moving forward, Far East Battery will continue to strengthen its capabilities in energy storage technologies and system integration, delivering safer, more efficient, and smarter energy storage solutions to accelerate the global transition toward a sustainable energy future.
