From Backup Power to Grid-Forming: Far East Battery Strengthens High-Reliability Power Solutions for AIDC

Categories:Date:2026-09-15

As AI computing continues to grow rapidly, data centers are facing changing power demands and evolving power architectures. With higher power densities and increasingly dynamic loads, energy storage is taking on a broader role beyond backup power. It must also respond quickly to changes in load and provide greater support for reliable data center operations.

For AI data centers (AIDC), energy storage is evolving from backup power toward a combination of backup, fast response, and system support. Far East Battery is incorporating these capabilities into its AIDC-oriented products and solutions while building practical engineering experience through large-scale energy storage projects.

From Backup Power to Fast Response

Reliability is a fundamental requirement for AIDC power systems, while the ability to respond to rapidly changing loads is becoming increasingly important. Compared with conventional data centers, high-power computing equipment places greater demands on the response speed and stability of power systems. This also raises requirements for battery cell C-rate capability, PCS response, BMS control, and thermal management.

Energy storage is therefore no longer simply about deploying batteries with sufficient capacity. Effective coordination among battery cells, BMS, PCS, and system-level controls is equally important. Far East Battery has developed capabilities across battery cells and energy storage systems, building a product portfolio ranging from high-performance cells to liquid-cooled energy storage systems to support high-capacity backup power and reliable operation for AIDC applications.

As energy storage becomes more involved in grid operations, grid-forming capability is also emerging as an important direction.

From Grid-Following to Grid-Forming

Conventional energy storage systems typically operate in a grid-following mode, while grid-forming systems can actively provide voltage and frequency support through grid-forming PCS and advanced control algorithms. They can respond rapidly to grid disturbances or faults and participate in applications such as peak shaving and frequency regulation.

This extends the role of energy storage beyond simply ensuring that power is available to actively supporting power system stability.

Far East Battery has already applied related technologies in large-scale energy storage projects. Recently, the 200 MW/800 MWh Xinjiang Linuo grid-forming independent energy storage project, in which Far East Battery participated in the construction, successfully entered commercial operation. The project comprises 32 energy storage units, featuring Far East Battery’s PowerSTROM 6000 liquid-cooled energy storage container solution and 1,750 kW grid-forming PCS.

The grid-forming PCS can synchronize with the grid without relying on a phase-locked loop (PLL), actively providing voltage and frequency support during grid disturbances and faults. It also supports both grid-connected and islanded operation. The PowerSTROM 6000 offers up to 6.25 MWh per container, supports operation at temperatures as low as -45°C, and adopts a modular Pack design to support stable operation in large-scale energy storage applications.

The project further demonstrates Far East Battery’s engineering capabilities in grid-forming technology and liquid-cooled energy storage systems, while providing practical experience for high-reliability power applications.

Supporting AIDC Beyond Backup Power

As AIDC power architectures continue to evolve, energy storage is becoming increasingly integrated with data center energy systems. In addition to providing high-capacity backup power, energy storage can work together with the broader power system to support renewable power integration, direct green power supply, and energy management.

For AIDC applications, Far East Battery has developed solutions across three key areas: high-capacity backup power, direct green power supply, and PUE optimization, covering product series including Green Shield, Digital Energy Shield, and Intelligent Energy Storage Shield.

From high-performance battery cells and liquid-cooled energy storage systems to grid-forming technologies, Far East Battery is bringing capabilities across different stages of the energy chain into AIDC power infrastructure.

Energy storage is evolving beyond its traditional role as a backup power source, taking on greater functions in fast response, energy management, and system support. From backup power to grid-forming, Far East Battery is strengthening its capabilities to provide reliable and efficient energy support for the next generation of AI infrastructure.
